James Madison junior outfielder Chad Carroll and Towson senior designated hitter Kurt Wertz, who both received preseason All-America accolades, were chosen as the CAA baseball preseason Co-Players of the Year in voting by the league’s head coaches.

Carroll earned first-team All-CAA honors in 2013 after ranking third in the conference with a .389 batting average and finishing second in the nation with eight triples. He also contributed 14 doubles and 55 RBI’s while stealing 21 bases. Wertz was a first-team All-CAA and third-team NCBWA All-America selection last season after batting .338, smacking 13 homers and leading the league with 65 RBI’s. He was also a member of the CAA All-Tournament team after helping the Tigers capture their first conference championship.

UNCW and William & Mary each had a league-high four players voted to the preseason All-CAA baseball team. Representing the Seahawks were three players who received first-team all-conference honors in 2013 – senior third baseman Ryan LaGrange, senior starting pitcher Mat Batts and senior closer Kelly Secrest – along with junior outfielder Luke Dunlap, who was a third-team All-CAA pick.

Making the team from the Tribe were sophomore catcher Ryan Hissey, junior first baseman Michael Katz, senior second baseman Ryan Lindemuth and junior starting pitcher Jason Inghram. Lindemuth made the All-CAA second team last season, Katz and Inghram earned third-team honors and Hissey was a CAA All-Rookie selection.

CAA newcomer College of Charleston has junior shortstop Gunnar Heidt and senior outfielder Brandon Murray honored on the preseason team. Murray was named to the All-Southern Conference second team last season. Senior outfielder Dominic Fratantuono, a third-team All-CAA choice in 2013, joined Wertz in representing Towson.
