Eskay contributed a goal and an assist in William & Mary’s 1-1-1 week that included a 3-2 victory over #1 Creighton on Sunday. The sophomore assisted on the Tribe’s first goal against Creighton and also scored a goal in a 2-1 double-overtime loss to N.C. State last Tuesday, which was the first goal surrendered by the Wolfpack this season. Eskay took a team-high six shots, including two on goal, in the Creighton win and fired four shots, with three on net, in a 0-0 tie with UCF last Friday.
CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Guillermo Delgado • Delaware
Fr., Forward, Tres Cantos, Spain/Jose Luis Sampedro
Delgado scored four goals as Delaware went 1-1 last week. The freshman forward tallied a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in the Blue Hens’ 3-0 triumph over St. Bonaventure on Friday and also scored twice in a 5-4 double-overtime setback at Seton Hall on Tuesday. Delgado leads the CAA with eight goals and 16 points this season.
CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Ignacio Gorrono • Hofstra
Fr., Forward/Midfielder, Madrid, Spain/Santa Maria Del Pilar
Gorrono scored both Hofstra goals in the Pride’s 2-1 double-overtime victory against #25 Brown on Sunday. The freshman forward scored his first career goal on a header that tied the match in the 66th minute before connecting on the game-winner from 20 yards out in the 108th minute.

WILLIAM & MARY KNOCKS OFF #1 CREIGHTON: William & Mary knocked off #1 Creighton 3-2 in double overtime on Sunday to capture the ODU Stihl Soccer Classic. It was the Tribe’s first victory over a top-ranked team since defeating Maryland in 2004. Redshirt freshman Jeff Bombelles scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute and the Tribe also got goals from Josh West and Chris Albiston against Creighton. Sophomore Chris Dunn was named the tournament’s MVP and was joined on the all-tournament team by Albiston, Michael Teiman and Chris Perez. Goalkeeper Mac Phillips made six saves versus Creighton and stopped a pair of shots as W&M played to a 0-0 draw with UCF on Friday. Jackson Eskay scored a goal in W&M’s 2-1 double-overtime setback to N.C. State last Tuesday and had an assist against Creighton.
FOUR CAA TEAMS RANKED REGIONALLY: Four CAA teams were ranked in the NSCAA South Atlantic regional rankings released on Sept. 10. Delaware was ranked #5 in the poll, while William & Mary was #7, UNCW was #9 and James Madison was #10. A new poll will be released on Tuesday.
DELAWARE IMPROVES TO 4-0 AT HOME: Delaware upped its record to 4-0 at home following a 3-0 victory over previously unbeaten St. Bonaventure last Friday. Freshman forward Guillermo Delgado scored two goals, including the game-winner, in the victory over St. Bonaventure, and also had a pair of goals in a 5-4 double-overtime setback at Seton Hall last Tuesday. Delgado leads the CAA and ranks among the nation’s leaders with eight goals and 16 points this season. Joe Dipre tallied his second goal of the year against SBU and goalkeeper Borja Barbero made four saves to earn the shutout.
GORRONO LIFTS HOFSTRA PAST #25 BROWN: Freshman Ignacio Gorrono scored the first two goals of his collegiate career to give Hofstra a 2-1 double-overtime victory against #25 Brown on Sunday. Gorrono tied the game in the 66th minute and then connected from 20 yards out for the golden goal in the 108th minute. The Pride is now 15-8-3 in their last 26 games against ranked opponents dating to 2004 and has beaten a ranked foe for the last three seasons. Rory Murphy, who was one of eight freshmen that played against Brown, notched his first career point with an assist.
UNBEATEN WEEK FOR NORTHEASTERN: Northeastern extended its home unbeaten streak to 18 games (17-0-1) following a 1-0 victory over Fordham last Tuesday. Freshman defender Matt Callahan’s first collegiate goal in the 47th minute was the game-winner. Sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Faber made one save in the shutout of Fordham and then stopped four shots as the Huskies battled to a scoreless draw at Providence on Saturday. Faber is tied for the league lead in save percentage (.808) and lowered his GAA to 0.92 for the season.
DREXEL RALLIES FOR FIRST ROAD WIN: Drexel scored twice in just over three minutes to rally past Lehigh 2-1 last Thursday for its first road win of the year. Senior Mark Donohue tied the match with his first goal of the year in the 78th minute and senior Nathan Page netted the game-winner in the 81st minute off an assist from Connor Goldsmith. It was the 20th career goal for Page. Freshman Tyler Afflerbach saw his collegiate shutout streak end at 158:48, but came up with five saves in the win. It was the 100th career victory for Drexel head coach Doug Hess.
JMU ROLLS PAST VMI: James Madison got goals from five different players in rolling past VMI 6-1 last Wednesday. Josh Grant scored twice against the Keydets, which was his second multi-goal game of the season, and leads the Dukes with four goals and eight points. Bjarki Aðalsteinsson, Karel Manrau, Mike Whitaker and Jonathan Barden each scored their first goals of the year against VMI and Adam Bastidas contributed two assists. Goalkeeper Kyle Morton made three saves in a 1-0 overtime loss at #17 Georgetown on Sunday.
CARDONA SCORES IN UNCW’S SETBACK AT ELON: Junior Mateo Cardona scored his first goal of the season and the fifth of his career in a 3-1 setback at Elon on Saturday. Sophomore Jose Garcia had an assist on the goal. It was the first road game in a stretch of five of six away from home for the Seahawks. UNCW visits a UNCG squad on Saturday that was nationally ranked earlier this season.
COFC FALLS TO VERMONT: Despite having an 18-12 advantage in shots, College of Charleston fell 2-0 to Vermont last Friday. The Cougars gave up both goals in a span of 1:38 midway through the second half. Troy Peterson took a team-high six shots for Charleston and put two of them on net, while Adam Purvis fired three shots.
